UNIQUE offering from the Hugh Hefner Archive is this RARE- ONLY 1 - THIS ONE - " Page 3 " Copy of the FIRST PLAYBOY issue that has been SIGNED and DOODLED upon TWICE by HEF, almost certainly the ONLY Playboy magazine - much less #1 copy, to have been signed and cartooned twice by Mr.

The "Page 3" printing variant is MUCH RARER than the more common "Newsstand" version. Whereas CGC has certified a total of over 300+ copies of the "Newsstand" version to date, CGC has certified ONLY 78 "Page 3" copies!! AND, NO Other COPY can boast the history of THIS COPY!! It was originally owned by Hefner's friend and business associate Eldon Sellers who "named" Playboy after Hefner's original choice of " Stag Party" which was understandably opposed by the publisher of Stag , a men's adventure magazine.

Sellers had helped Hefner find investors to provide startup capital for the fledging magazine. Sellers was also married to Janie Sellers, who had been a close friend of Hugh Hefner since their high school days at Steinmetz high School in Chicago.

In later years, Eldon had gifted the copy of the Playboy #1 to his wife Janie Sellers, who in turn sent it to her old friend, HUE HEFNER, around 2017, asking him to autograph it for her. Hefner autographed it TWICE - on the outside cover and again on Page 3 of the interior, BOTH times including a CARTOON PROFILE DOODLE , one of Himself Smoking his Pipe, the other of a BUNNY Smoking a Pipe!!! Hefner also included a NOTE - written on HIS PERSONAL STATIONERY: To Janie - with love, Hef. CGC Notes, From the Collection of Jane Sellers. The issue is accompanied by a LETTER of PROVENANCE from Janie Sellers dated October 1, 2017!! To say that there is NOTHING EVEN REMOTELY LIKE IT is an understatement of immense proportions. This CGC 3.5 ORIGINAL #1 PLAYBOY (1953) is the ONLY Original #1 with a HUGH HEFNER Autograph AND a HUGH HEFNER ("Goo Heffer") SELF-PORTRAIT Caricature on the FRONT COVER!!
