Harper's New Monthly Magazine: Volume XXX and XXXI. Harper & Brothers Publishers: New York.

Volume XXX and XXXI of Harper's New Monthly Magazine, comprised of articles published between December 1864 and November 1865. First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding. This book weighs 4 KG when packed. Bound in half crushed morocco with cloth to the boards. Comprised of Volume XXX and Volume XXXI of Harper's New Monthly Magazine, covering December 1864 to May 1865, and June 1865 to November 1865.

Harper's New Monthly Magazine' was the original name of what is now known as'Harper's Magazine', with the first issue being published in 1850 and being an immediate sell-out. The early issues, such as these two, reprinted material from authors such as Charles Dickens, the Bronte sisters and William Makepeace Thackeray. These particular volumes are full of stories from well-known authors, with Charles Dickens's'Our Mutual Friend','Armadale' by Wilkie Collins, and'Music in a Crowd' by Elizabeth D. Both volumes are profusely illustrated with vignettes throughout. Bound in half crushed morocco with cloth boards.

Externally, sound with slight bumping to the boards and extremities. The odd chip to leather. Circular dents the front boards. Slight rubbing to the extremities and joints, with the odd tear and cloth lifting to the front board of XXXI.

A little fading to the board extremities. Hinges are strained, with cords visible. Title page to volume XXX tender, with tear to gutter. Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear. Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy. Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones. Often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy. Some more serious faults as will. Be described in the condition report under'condition.

Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair. As with good only above but with other faults. Leaving a compromised copy even after repair. Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete. We only sell books in this condition where their rarity or value makes them.

Major defects will be described. Please ask for details and conditions. Please note we cannot accept USD cheques.
