WISDOM MAGAZINE BOUND IN 3 BOOKS This is 3 volumes of The Wisdom Magazine bound They are all very oversized and very heavy, They have green cloth, and are ex library books with the pockets at the flyleaf. Included are: Volume 1 which is from January to June 1956 This also includes the first issue which has Einstein on the cover Volume 2 January to June 1957 and Volume 2 from July to December 1957, Wisdom Magazine first appeared in 1956. It was published by a company called The Wisdom Society. This was a very large sized magazine, as they used to print at the time. Often the covers portrayed pictures of artists, writers, & well known intellectuals of the time. These photos were taken by Yousuf Karsh, an Armenian-Canadian photographer known for his portraits of notable individuals. He has been described as one of the greatest portrait photographers of the 20th century. Leon Gutterman, was president & editor-in-chief, & Betty Jane Lang, was vice president & editorial/research director. Gutterman & Lang personally did the research, writing & editing of the society's publications which involved interpretation of the wisdom of great scholars & of persons of historical importance.

They dealt with such persons & subjects as William Shakespeare, Carl Sandburg, Robert Frost, Thomas Edison, Moses, Jesus, the Holy Bible, Will Durant, Felix Frankfurter, Arnold Toynbee, Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, Pope Pius XII, Eleanor Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Bertrand Russell, Dr. Jonas Salk, Nehru, Walt Disney, Winston Churchill & others. Gutterman himself conducted interviews with many of the living subjects of his articles They said the purpose of the magazine was to To promote, stimulate & encourage public interest in support of knowledge, learning & education & to search for new knowledge & understanding by advancing the educational welfare of mankind; & to create & publish educational magazines & books dedicated to the development of the human mind & to the betterment of mankind. The Society was declared a non-profit educational publishing institution whose headquarters was based in Beverly Hills, California.
