AVEDON, RICHARD, and CAPOTE, TRUMAN. Observations, New York: Simon & Schuster, 1959.

152, printed boards, gravure plates showing artists, actors and other celebrities, slipcased, gift inscription on free front endpaper. 148-49: Observations is the culmination of a creative collaboration between Richard Avedon and Alexey Brodovitch [the magazine editor].

Capote, who wrote his arch text between Breakfast at Tiffany's and In Cold Blood, is most valuable here for conveying Avedon's words, notably the photographer's observations on the beauty of age. Also see Hasselblad 178 and Auer 386. Very good with areas of darkening to the boards, wear at spine ends. Slipcase is poor but remains functional. Acetate dust jacket has soiled spine, tears and is missing a chunk but holding together.
