First Edition Printed for G.His is a Good Copy of this book in it's original quarter brown calf binding over marbled boards with r raised bands to spine and with red moroccan title label lettered in gilt to the 2nd compartment to the spine, the date is in gilt. The book has one faded inscription to the front pastedown.
This work was principally designed for women readers with articles and topics covered being fashion and dress style, politics, history and some poetry. The outer boards are rather worn and handled over the years. There are many engravings of a romantic nature and the work includes many folding engravings of gentleman's handkerchiefs, lady's sashes, design for an apron and the engravings one of which is a charming view of Stonehenge. Contents also include poetical essays, foreign news, the life of John Horne Tooke and much more. Binding remains firm with no great weakness, the stitched binding showing through a touch at front gutter join.
Contents clean apart from some age toning to the final 50 or so pages, corners are bumped, Thick 8vo [iv] 724pp + 4pp index .
