Axelrod of New Jersey was the Superintendent of Highfields Residential Group Center in Hopewell in the 70s (a state institution for "delinquent" youths). He was also a renowned expert in sexual deviancies and criminal issues related to children.

There's a fascinating history to all of this which I will include below, but let's get to the condition. They kind of send shivers down my spine to hold because they feel new. Even the earliest issue is crisp and mostly clean, although please look at the pictures because the cover of the first and second issues do show some flaking/tearing.

Overall Very white pages, all of the books have their original subscription inserts inside where there was one (as far as I can tell). No pages are marked in any way. They are like new with the exception of any moisture they may have taken in. I don't see much, except on the back cover of the earliest issue there is some discoloring.

The rest are basically perfect. These were stored out of the light, in a file folder, in a basement, since publication.

I'm not sure anyone has these in this condition. From the One Archives Foundation.

Throughout his lifetime, Jim Kepner obsessively collected materials related to LGBTQ topics, issues, and individuals. After moving to Los Angeles, Kepner attended his first meeting of the Mattachine Society, an early homophile organization founded in 1951. Later that year, several members of the Mattachine, including educator and activist W.

Dorr Legg, met to discuss creating a magazine for homosexuals. In November 1952 they formed ONE Inc. And in January 1953 published the first issue of.

Which would become the first widely distributed publication for homosexuals in the United States. The magazine featured articles, editorials, short stories, book reviews, and letters to the editor. Kepner, a frequent contributor to. Along with Legg and Dr.

Merritt, went on to found the ONE Institute, the educational arm of ONE Inc. That conducted seminars and published a journal. Ceased publication in 1967, under Leggs guidance the Institute continued to advocate and educate, eventually issuing advanced degrees in Homophile Studies.

In 1971, Kepner named his collection, then housed in his rented Hollywood apartment, the Western Gay Archives. His archives would later move to a storefront space in Hollywood, becoming the National Gay Archives, and later, the International Gay & Lesbian Archives, to reflect the growing scope of the collections. In 1994, Kepners archives merged with the ONE Institute, and in 2000 moved to its current location provided by the University of Southern California. The archives would later be renamed ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives. In October 2010, the collections at ONE Archives became a part of the USC Libraries system. Today, ONE Archives is the oldest continuing LGBTQ organization in the United States and the largest repository of LGBTQ materials in the world. IMPORTANT DATES TO NOTE BECAUSE OF THE RARITY OF THESE BOOKS. The Los Angeles postal authorities seize the August edition of. The issue, which bore the title Homosexual Marriage? On the cover, is released three weeks later without explanation.

Opens an office in downtown Los Angeles at 232 South Hill Street. The Los Angeles postal authorities seize the October issues of. The ONE Institute for Homophile Studies opens. After four years of litigation, the Supreme Court declares.

Is not in violation of obscenity laws. I haven't seen any of the first year's for sale in a long time. And even the second year run books are pretty rare. These specifically were books that came out while they were being seized and fighting for their legal right under freedom of speech as human beings, to create content.
