"Harper's New Monthly Magazine, Volume III June to November, 1851". In this book is Herman Melville's "The Town-Ho's Story", in which the first mention of Moby Dick is made.

This is the first appearance of any part of Moby Dick in print in America. "Moby Dick" went on to be published in its entirety the fall of 1851. Published by Harper & Brothers, New York, 1851.

Illustrated with black and white drawings throughout. The book measures 6.25" x 9.75", 864 pages. Bound in its original full morocco over pebbled boards. Raised bands to the spine with black and gold labels. The book is in very good condition. Minor wear to the leather boards with gently bumped corners. Light chipping to the spine. Previous owner's signature in pencil on the title page.

Library plate presented from the estate of Seth Brown on the rear paste-down. Foxing throughout the textblock with some creased corners. Small stain to the top margins of the rear leaf and endpaper. The textblock is bright, unmarked, and complete.
