This issue is full of classic fashion photography during WWII by Norman Parkinson, Cecil Beaton and the extraordinary Lee Miller. Featured in this impossibly rare 40s issue is both fashion and documentary photography by the model-turned-muse-turned photographer etc etc Lee Miller. Lee is the subject of a new film in production, starring Kate Winslet as the lead. During World War Two, British Vogue was permitted to continue being published as a part of the war effort. One of its influences was to encourage people to recycle and contribute paper to the war effort.

They sent their archives to be pulped and had features on taking part in the war effort. As a result any British Vogue pre-1945 are some of the rarest magazines on the planet.

LEE MILLER starts the issues with stunning night photography of Women's Services at work with searchlight on during The Blitz. 4 pages of fantastic design and fascinating images including a field hospital run by the W. There is also more about the Women's war effort inside the issue. Allied Services - The women of Europe fight on here'. The Local' Lee Miller photographs in the local pub, a fantastic shoot, 4 pages. 2 pages of Fashion photography by Norman Parkinson.

Rene Bouet Willaumez illustrates 3 more pages of fashion + 1 of scarf prints in colour later in the issue. Carl Erickson illustrates in colour 1 pages.

More fashion in this issue photographed by Rawlings. Cecil Beaton photographs'The London Theatre in Wartime'. 2 pages including John Gielgud, Noel Coward, Deborah Kerr, Kay Hammond, Robert Donat, Diana Wynard and Madge Elliott. The American Red Cross in Great Britain Photographs by Toni Frissel, 2 pages.

The Vogue PATTERN book is sewn in, several pages of photos and drawings. So many great ads too, this is a pure time capsule of an extraordinary time in history for fashion and Great Britain. This forties issue is dated June 1943, published in London while WW2 raged around the city. It's a miracle that this has survived. It's probably the last copy we will see!

Light wear to cover and spine with a small piece of the bottom corner missing - as can be seen in the attached photographs of the actual magazine. We are also happy to combine post. This item is in the category "Books, Comics & Magazines\Magazines".magazines" and is located in this country: GB.
