Hallingen, Norwegian American Magazine Bd Vol. UDGIVET AF OG FOR HALLINGLAGET I AMERIKA Nos. 21-31 (11 bound issues) October 1917-Mid 1920. Hallinglag of America, 1917 - 1920. A custom bound volume containing 11 consecutive issues of the quarterly magazine published by the Norwegian American association of families descended for the Hallingdal region of Norway.
The issues encompass the World war I period and many include information of the Norwegian American solidiers who participated in the fighting. Hardcovers, three-quarter leather with ribbed leather spine and corners, gilts spine titles, octavo, 740 pages plus multi-year indexes. Most of the issues , though not all, include the Cover/Title Page and the Tables of Contents.Issue 27 (June 1919) is missing the first 4 pages. All other issues are complete but the pages of Issue 29 appear to be numbered incorrectly. Hallingdal is a rugged mountain valley in Norway, part of Buskerud County (fylke). Many people migrated from this valley coming to America and Canada, especially during the 1800's.
The Hallinglag is an organization formed in 1907 by these immigrants and their descendants. The Hallinglag aims to preserve and promote the unique cultural heritage given to us by these pioneers. The Hallinglag has published Hallingen since 1908 and it was given that name in 1912. The magazine is still published today. Although Hallingen was printed entirely in Norwegian for years, today only an occasional article is written in Norse. The magazine containes a wealth of historical, biographical and genealogical information on the Norwegian American community, and includes many photographs of people, and of some locations.

Intact contents appear to be complete except for few missing issue cover pages and perhaps 5 missing text pages (420-24).
