Various Authors : Graham's Magazine Vol. [6.5" x 10"] 418 pgs. Steel engravings, a few hand colored. Variously Known as Graham's Lady's and Gentleman's magazine, Graham's Magazine of Literature and Art, and other names the magazine was founded by George Rex Graham in 1841.

Edgar Allen Poe was hired as editor in Feb. 1841 and several of his articles and the novella "Murder's of the Rue Morgue" were published here. Intended to be a high brow periodical aimed at refined men & women it published material by the best authors of the times, Hawthorne, Poe, William Cullen Bryant, James Russel Lowell here incl. It covered fashion, music, criticism of the arts and literature. It was known for it's high quality artistic illustrations , steel engravings etc.

This is a volume of bound issues of the magazine between Jan. The magazine was published 17 years until 1858. Contains an article of literary criticism written by E. Poe who had died a few months previously. A nice collectible "period piece" nearly 170 years old.
