One of the most idealistic experiments in the publishing world, DoubleTake magazine premiered in Summer, 1995 and produced 31 quarterly issues (including one Special Edition) through its finale in Spring, 2003. This very rare collection includes all 31 magazines, each in excellent shape. DoubleTake was the brainchild of Dr. Robert Coles, Harvard professor, prolific author, and social commentator.

His mission was to create a voice, not only for the intelligentsia. (but) for the ordinary people of the country. " In the premiere issue, the editors articulated this vision: to create "a home where image and word would have equal weight, where photographers and writers have equal license to wander and to wonder: a home that welcomes poets and novelists, photographers and journalists, short-story writers and essayists, some of whom are known, and some of whom are unknown, and all of whom recognize the power of narrative to reveal and then to transform.

Doubletake was considered a general interest literary quarterly; the magazine was unique in giving equal weight to word and image (the name itself refers to these dual ways of seeing). Anything but ordinary, it won the prestigious National Magazine Award for general excellence. First published at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, it later moved to Somerville, Massachusetts. This item is in the category "Books & Magazines\Magazines".
