This is a December 1929 issue of TRAVEL in very good condition, 58 pages in length, an oversized magazine publication that measures approximately 10" x 12 ¾". Bound with a stapled spine, the cover is still firmly attached and they are acceptably clean. Edge wear is modest for its oversized presentation. There are a few turned corners but no page encompasing creases or tears and no previous owner names or notations. This magazine, one of American's leading travel publications for the well heeled set of the early 20th century, features a number of in-depth articles, including one on Afghanistan by May Mott-Smith, likely of the Hawaiian Island Mott-Smiths. Additionally it displays an abundance of 1929 travel ads promoting locations all over the world, many of which include pricing.

Don Blanding's article, LIVING JEWELS OF HAWAIIAN SEAS appears on pages 17, 18, 19 and 20. This full four-page story includes a lengthy text describing his personal diving experience in the accompaniment of a local spear fisherman.

Our equipment, nets, fishlines, waterboxes, spears, wire grapples, some slivers of dried fish and a couple of bowls of poi, we loaded into his hollow log outrigger canoe, launched it on the still waters of a small bay on the coast of Oahu and drifted for hours idly in a world of a mad artist's dreaming. Included are five signed woodcut illustrations plus several other partial portions integrated into the text. Of significant note, a couple of these woodcuts are not familiar to the standard Blandings books, but one appears to have been reversed by TRAVEL, as Mr. Blanding's initials appear backwards. Likely many of the experiences described in this article enabled our Author to create both the word pictures and visual displays that brought him the fame and appreciation that is perhaps as abundant today as it was 3 /4 of a century earlier. This appearance in the December 1929 Issue of TRAVEL appears to be a unique presentation to which they may have retained rights. Today, TRAVEL is a highly sought after publication for its well written articles and extravagant travel ads.
