7 Volume Set, FINE LEATHER Bound, Matching, Harper's New Monthly Magazine -1/3

  

Being offered is a set of 7 volumes, Volumes XI (11), XIII (13), XIV (14), XV (15) to Volumes XVII (17), XVIII (18), and XXI (21)consecutively identically bound in fine leather, all from the library of E. Dean likely received the monthly installments of this magazine, bound in paper covers, and then had them bound together in six month groupings in these fine bindings. These have been very well selected and cared for- leather maintained very nicely. Also, the monthly issues of the magazine provide a fascinating window not only on American life and mores but also the state of the world. For instance, this set provides background on the approaching Civil War.

Described below are the second and 6th volume - we can also provide descriptions, including minor differences and some notes on contents. JOU 041731 A very handsome volume of this extensive series, double columned text covering a myriad of subjects (the listing of contents is four pages) , fine illustrations throughout (461).

The volume has brown and tan mottled paper boards with russet leather spine and corners with bright gilt, 5 raised bands, 6 spine panels, the 2nd and 3rd bearing title and Vol. Leather supple with no cracks. Some slight rubbing to boards - corners rubbed. There is some light foxing on some pages but minor. Title page and contents page and illustrations pages in the front with light moisture stains on the edges.

Some slight rubbing to boards - corners rubbed, lower edge rubbed, small scrape on the leather near the rear base of spine hinge. All are in very good to near fine condition. Most are fine leather bindings but not all bindings match each other though often there are groups, like these, that have the same bindings.
