I have here for sale a BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED VOLUME IX of THE ENGLISHWOMAN'S DOMESTIC MAGAZINE - AN ILLUSTRATED JOURNAL, COMBINING PRACTICAL INFORMATION, INSTRUCTION AND AMUSEMENT. This was published by S. With 9 full page engraved fashion plates of which 8 are hand coloured. This volume includes issues 49- 56 plus a section on Christmas books. It was in its day a directive for women to be able to see the latest fashions and hairstyles- The Prima of its day.

Also included short stories - Mildred's Wedding et al, history of perfumery etc. The Ladies Treasury was popular and well received at the time.

The Civil Service Gazette even called it "the best of all the magazines designed for the use of ladies". [5] Its main competitor was the Beetons' Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine, and one of Mrs. Beeton's recent biographers has suggested the Ladies Treasury was an inferior "copycat".

[6] Others disagree and have called Eliza Warren "remarkably prolific and enterprising". Half bound in leather over marbled boards. Gilt title lettering to the spine. The spine and boards are a little rubbed.

Brown endpapers, name to the ffep - an effort by previous owner to remove it. Pencilled numbers to the title page.
