I have here for sale the 1863/64 VOLUME II (new series) of THE ENGLISHWOMAN'S DOMESTIC MAGAZINE AN ILLUSTRATED JOURNAL combining PRACTICAL INFORMATION, INSTRUCTION AND AMUSEMENT by BEETON. With 12 beautiful hand coloured engraved fashion plates featuring the latest fashions one of them advertises where the fashions can be brought from - Farmer and Rogers Regent St. The fashion detail on these plates is amazing. This volume has issues from May 1863 through to April 1864 complete. The Ladies Treasury was popular and well received at the time.
The Civil Service Gazette even called it "the best of all the magazines designed for the use of ladies". [5] Its main competitor was the Beetons' Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine, and one of Mrs. Beeton's recent biographers has suggested the Ladies Treasury was an inferior "copycat".
[6] Others disagree and have called Eliza Warren "remarkably prolific and enterprising". Half bound in leather over marbled boards. Gilt title lettering to the spine.
The spine and boards are a little rubbed. Brown endpapers, Faint inscription to the ffep. Pencilled numbers to the title page. Foxed and age soiled page margins.
