PLEASE SEE MY LISTINGS FOR MORE FASHION PLATES. A copy of the ORIGINAL 1820, January to December edition of'The Lady's Magazine'. This is volume one of the new series. Which includes a collection of 20 black and white fashion plates (one with a tear) including mourning attire. However, even more interesting are the 4 exceptionally rare dance plates with their accompanying music scores and brief dance instructions. I have included photos of two- please contact me if you wish to see the others.
There are also a couple of other plates, including a sketch and biography of George III who died i January 1820. According to the index at the back some of the plates which would have headed each month are missing, including Queen Caroline, Count Bergami and George IV, however, there is no evidence of them ever being bound in. This publication would have originally been published in monthly sections and would consist of letters, stories, poems and other literary matters. Also, home and foreign news, the theatre, fashion plus a section on births, marriages and deaths. Thus it provides a fascinating snapshot of life at the end of the Regency period and the beginning of the reign of George IVth. Of particular interest is an eye witness account of the coronation of George IV and Queen Caroline, who seemed suitably impressed by the affair.
Condition : please see details of description above and look carefully at the photos, which form an important part of the description. The plates are discoloured due to the type of paper which was used. Measurements: approx 8.5" x 5.5". The figure I have quoted is'generic'. Many thanks for your interest!
