According to legend, Poe was fired in the middle of 1840 and refused to complete the novel for his former boss, William Burton. This volume includes other Poe contributions, including a 3 page'Notice of William Cullen Bryant' in the May 1840 issue, that is accompanied by an engraving of WCB. 1/2 red morocco with marbled boards. Numerous engraved plates, including portraits, landscapes and fashion images. Former owner's signature on two front blank pages, as well as the upper margin of the first page of text.
